About Me

Thomas Kaempfen
I recently received my MA in Political Theory, focusing on intellectual history. I am fascinated by practical politics as the intersection point between ideology and policy. Politics is ideas that matter, i.e. beliefs, prejudices, convictions, sensibilities, which directly affect all of our lives. Why do people believe what they believe? What are the deeper understandings that motivate their ideological commitments? These are the questions that compel me. But most important, can understanding the bases of ideology help us to make sense of the chaos, rancor, and absurdity of American political life? I am a liberal, a progressive, a pragmatist and a populist, and those positions reflect my most fervent wish, that American politics be made more rational and more just.
